As a knowledge-based organisation, we thrive on new ideas, fresh challenges and different approaches. Our growth and development is driven by our people.

A challenging vision to be different

We are a significant economics consultancy with a strong history in Australia and developing our presence in Asia.  We work all over the world.  We’ve grown steadily, weathering boom and bust with our clients, which include large and small businesses, regulators and governments.

Our origins were humble

We started life in 1999, in a temporary office, with a handful of staff and some bold ideas.  Over several weeks, the name, logo, operating model, values and ownership structure were thrashed out.  We questioned everything we knew about professional services firms and planned from first principles.  We didn’t get everything right, and we still challenge ourselves, but most of what we agreed has survived.

We rejected offers of investment because our independence is the cornerstone of our success. Our incentive structures encourage us to support, and not compete with, each other. And we build and value the skills of our staff, creating a flat structure where merit trumps any notion of seniority.

We chose values that were tough to achieve.  They are based on what we care about.  They motivate us to work in the right way and to do the right things for clients, and they encourage debate.

By focusing entirely on our values – independence, economic rigour and a collegiate workplace – we thought we were more likely to be successful than if we focused simply on growth.

Continuing our journey

As a knowledge-based organisation, we thrive on new ideas, fresh challenges and different approaches. Our growth and development is driven by our people.

Since our founding, we have welcomed many new faces. And we’ve farewelled some too. David Briggs, an executive director between 2001 and 2012, ably lead our public policy work and was a strong influence on many Frontier staff.

In 2014, Frontier Economics Pty Ltd had its biggest change in ownership since our founding 16 years ago. We welcomed four new executive directors. James Allan and Andrew Harpham were appointed from within Frontier. Professor Stephen Gray and Dr Jason Hall joined our team from their successful corporate finance advisory firm SFG Consulting. Frontier and SFG Consulting have worked together over many years and it seemed a natural fit to make this partnership official.

In 2016, we opened an office in Singapore, from which we are better able to work with our clients in the Asian region.

This heralds an exciting new chapter in our development – our teen years are nearly behind us and we look forward to our future.
