What was the challenge?
Around the world, digital platforms have been proliferating. The growth in digital platforms has seen a commensurate increase in the data generated, and collected, by these platforms and their users, including, for example: personal data, operational data, search data or transactional data.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), wanted to provide a practical guide for competition authorities and regulators on the quantitative tools and techniques available to gather and analyse data in competition cases, studies and impact assessments. Including discussion of the strengths and limitations of the tools and techniques to assist them in deciding when particular tools and techniques should be applied. Frontier Economics was engaged by APEC to produce this report.
