Her focus is on energy market analysis and modelling using our proprietary long-term, multi-sectoral optimisation model energy42, along with a range of other models and quantitative tools. She has substantial experience using these sophisticated modelling tools to deliver forecasts, analysis, investment insights and strategic advice on energy market outcomes both in Australia and overseas.

In the urban economics sector, she also has significant experience deploying cost-benefit analysis, econometric approaches and data analytics including GIS-based analysis to support clients across Government, utilities and other organisations.

Her sector expertise includes:

Energy market modelling, net zero transition, and strategic energy sector insight

Rosemary regularly uses our energy market optimisation model energy42 to deliver long price forecasts and analysis of a range of energy market outcomes such as carbon emissions, technology transition pathways, the impact of Government policies and targets, generator operations, and key investment metrics for a range of business, Government, and utility clients.

Examples include:

  • Modelling the Australian National Energy Market’s (NEM) transition to net zero (including natural gas, hydrogen and electricity markets) for a key energy business to understand what role gas-fired generators might play in the NEM over the long term and the value these assets could deliver.
  • Long-term forecasting of both electricity prices and carbon credit prices in Singapore for while accounting for the range of decarbonisation policies, objectives and planned investments that shape the market for a large corporate client.
  • Monte Carlo Simulation modelling of weather and electricity price patterns to assist Hunter Water understand the exposure to risk inherent to alternative energy procurement opportunities.
  • Review of forecasting approaches and other modelling methodologies deployed in the Integrated Systems Plan as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's (DCCEEW) Review of the Integrated System Plan.

Urban economics

Rosemary also works in our urban economics practice on projects focused on housing economics and stormwater management and development. This includes:

  • Collaborating with academic experts to develop a set of econometric models to predict housing market outcomes and building a user-friendly, self-contained and updatable model format for business use by a key industry organisation.
  • Developing cost-benefit analyses for Government clients that investigate the environmental, economic and social value of alternative approaches to managing stormwater (alongside other water-related services) in large scale greenfield development projects.
  • Developing original econometric forecasts for housing refinance activity in different markets for a large, regulated business to support business planning.
