On 17 December 2024, NSW's Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) published its 2023-24 annual report on the performance and efficiency of the state's biodiversity credits market. The report revealed that the significant issues highlighted in the 2022-23 review continue to persist.
Among other issues, IPART found high transaction costs and market complexity discourage participation. And they made recommendations to improve market performance and efficiency, including reducing transaction and entry costs where possible and practical.
We were pleased to advise IPART on transactions costs and efficiency in the context of their annual report.
