Transaction Advice & Due Diligence

We help buyers, sellers, their financial advisers, and equity and debt investors with transactions in the sectors we know best: energy, water, telecommunications and transport. We combine rigorous economic analysis with commercial insight to turn evidence into clear, decision-ready advice.

Frontier Economics has a long and successful track record of working with clients on transactions in the sectors we know best: energy, water, telecommunications and transport. We support buyers, sellers, their financial advisers, and equity and debt investors.

We combine rigorous economic analysis with commercial insight developed over years of working in these sectors. We help clients assess opportunities, test assumptions and navigate complex regulatory issues. From market assessment and valuation inputs to competition analysis and due diligence, we turn evidence into clear, decision-ready advice.

In energy alone, we have advised on more than 20 thermal generation transactions in the National Electricity Market since 1999, and on deals for electricity networks, gas pipelines, renewables, metering and water infrastructure.

What we offer

  • Market advisory: long-term forecasts of electricity, gas and renewable certificate prices, dispatch and demand, used to value an asset or set a bid
  • Commercial and market due diligence: forecasts of an asset’s revenues, costs and margins under a range of scenarios, and review of the vendor’s market report
  • Regulatory due diligence: regulatory risks and opportunities, forecasts of the allowed cost of capital, and audits of the regulatory parts of financial models
  • Vendor and lender reports: sell-side market reports for bidders, and market reports to support refinancing
  • Competition analysis: advice and submissions when a deal needs regulatory clearance

Our published work

Our published work includes market modelling for AGL on its acquisitions of Loy Yang A in 2012 and of Bayswater and Liddell in 2014, where our experts gave evidence to the Australian Competition Tribunal. We advised the NSW Government on its electricity asset sales, and AustralianSuper on Brookfield and EIG’s bid for Origin Energy.
